The Better Sleep Council is a front group that, according to its name, appears like they care about people getting better sleep. They published an article, “Living The Dream of Better Sleep” on their website, ostensibly to help people get better sleep with their sleep tips. Who actually reads this garbage? Anyhow, in it they give several tips which include, “Turning off your thoughts and worries are essentials if you are going to sleep well” This is so insightful! Like people can’t figure this out on their own. Oh, and like they can just flip the wall switch to accomplish turning off their thoughts and worries like they do the lights!! Why would any serious sleep advice website publish such stupid stuff? We will show you that in a minute.
Tip number 2: “Getting yourself in a routine where you go to bed at the same time every night. Sure, but what if you have a hectic life? Tip number 3: “Set up a routine you can do every night before bed.” We are sure this will help a ton! Maybe! Tip number 4: “The biggest factor in how well you sleep is your mattress. A mattress that is old or uncomfortable can result in aches and pains, tossing and turning, and sleep that is not as restful and restorative as it should be. If you are not waking up feeling refreshed and relaxed, it’s time to take a look at your mattress and evaluate its condition. The lifespan of a mattress is no more than 5-7 years [yeah, if you buy a big brand-name mattress the lifespan is probably less than 3 but they don’t want to admit this], its time to replace it once you meet that threshold.”
There you have it, a few tips on sleeping better but a final tip that is what they are actually after….BUY A NEW MATTRESS! Since the Better Sleep Council is a front group funded by the International Sleep Products Association, which is a lobby group for all the companies tied to the mattress industry, including chemical companies, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that these sleep tips are a veiled way to try to get people to buy more mattresses. Lobby groups of all kinds are really strong arm groups that strong arm, manipulate, and lie in whatever industry they are tied to and the mattress industry is no different. The large companies have the lobby group called the International Sleep Products Association and they are nefarious as any. Don’t buy a mattress from a large company, because these companies have worked to reduce competition, lobby for special favors from government agencies and many times such work works against the interest of the average consumer.
